This workshops teaches basic felting technique and botanical printing, and then concentrates on
design in felting including how to incorporate botanical printed pieces in
Day 1 …Botanical printing on wool and silk
Choosing and preparation of fabric
Use of recycled fabric and clothes
Selection of plant material
Try out various effects of different plant materials on fabric (silk or wool)
Based on the experimental trail results, learn how to design your own botanical print image on fabric
Day 2 …Integration of Botanically printed fabric into felt
Using the self-printed fabric from day 1 workshop for this project
Learn how to make your own prefelt
How to integrate the botanical self-printed fabric with the prefelt
Pro and cons of making your own prefelt versus using purchased prefelt
Creation of wearable art
Creation of decorative items for the home.
Learn the technique of nuno felting (combing fabric with wool)
All tools for day 1 & 2 will be provided. All materials for learning the basic techniques will be provided.

DRYPOINT PRINTMAKING WITH DEB TWINING

Explore a range of mark making techniques in this Drypoint Printmaking workshop with artist Deborah Twining. Drypoint etching is a versatile and safe, non acid form of Intaglio printing, that still retains the subtleties and beauty of etching. Its perfect for those who love to draw and want to create multiples of their work. Images are drawn, scratched and burnished into the surface of the plate, before being inked and printed through a printing press. Take home a small edition of your own beautiful prints.

3D FELTING WITH YVONNE DALTON

This form of art journaling is an excellent way to explore a variety of mixed media, to experiment with ideas & to re-purpose unwanted old books as personal, richly creative journals. A selection of old books, collage & a diverse range of art materials will be provided for you to explore.
Please bring an old hard back book if you have one, (there will have plenty for you to choose from too). Bring any special bits you might like to use in your journal & an apron if you like! No art experience is necessary, only your willingness to explore!

An introduction to informal hand lettering with ink and a calligraphy brush. Students will learn some basic typographic principles before practicing different lettering styles and techniques based on their own handwriting; beginning with a series of short, simple exercises, participants will progress to designing and lettering some more finished pieces with an emphasis on developing their own lettering style.
An excellent starting-point for anyone interested in learning a more freeform method of hand lettering and adding some finesse to their everyday handwriting! A calligraphy brush and small jar of ink will be supplied to you on the day for you to take home.

Learn simple techniques to achieve various effects in water colour and provide a basis for further exploration in an informal setting. Painting small works in a single layer with a water colour palette – the most convenient and economical of painting mediums – this is the perfect starting point for both beginners and seasoned artists looking to try a new medium.
Workshop participants will complete a series of simple painting exercises to familiarise themselves with their materials before applying these techniques to render a selection of still-life subjects.
